Greetings from Paraguay via the USA !
July 1st we arrived in the States for a seven week visit… it’s always an exciting time for us! This year we were scheduled to speak in three churches (two in California and one in Colorado) and spend time with the family.
As you might have noticed, w e seem to go from one adventure to another, and this trip has not been any different! After spending a few days in Colorado, we headed for a quick visit to Nebraska then returned to load up our borrowed van to head to California. Jerry’s sister Carol and husband Dave had just serviced up the van and we were set to travel!
After a luncheon date with some friends in Monte Vista, Colorado, we were chatting away as we headed up Wolf Creek Pass. Suddenly the van made a terrible sound and died a violent death! (Transmission) As we pushed it off to the side of the road, we prayed that God would send us a State Patrolman or someone to help. IMMEDIATLY a car pulled up behind us and a man offered to help. Turned out that he and his assistant were believers! They took us for coffee and then headed back down to Monte Vista in search of a tow-truck. (Not always an easy find in a small mountain town.) God blessed and as Jerry returned to the van with the tow-truck, Tom and Casey took Connie safely back to Steve and JoLynn Shown’s home.
The Shown’s were so gracious; they gave us a bed to sleep in and then the next day JoLynn took us in search of a rental car. Before we could locate an available rental car, we had driven all the way back to Colorado Springs!!! Needless to say, our travel schedule had been delayed one whole day. A quick call to Pastor Dan Morrison in Farmington, New Mexico and our breakfast appointment was rescheduled for the next morning.
In the rental car we breezed right into California! The only excitement was the wildfire that closed the roads just beyond the area where we stopped for the night. We arrived in Morro Bay and stayed in a private home that overlooked the bay and Morrow Rock…lovely! Sunday we ministered in the two services with Pastor Mike Sparrow at Agape Church in San Luis Obispo the 19th of July. For the next Sunday, July 26, we traveled to Visalia, California to minister in three services – 2 in English and 1 in Spanish - with Pastors Arthur and Peggy Escobedo at Praise Center Church.
To fill in some of the time between the Sundays, we played tourists: walked on the beach at Morro Bay; visited the Hearst Castle; marveled at the Sequoia redwoods and toured the Crystal Cave as well as got caught up on our office work. On our way back to Colorado we detoured to Overgaard, Arizona to visit friends, arriving back in Loveland on July 29. So ended our travels in the month of July! God truly blessed us and kept His protecting hand over us.
On the first Saturday and Sunday of August we shared at our home church, Resurrection Fellowship, with Pastor Jonathan Wiggins in Loveland, Colorado. The rest of the time will be spent with family, with our flight back to Paraguay scheduled for August 19th.
** A highlight during the trip was the 10 salvations during the services held at Praise Center Church. Pastor Arthur gave a salvation call at the end of each service and the people responded! The Holy Spirit can move in hearts even as they listen to mission reports and a sermon on the helps ministry!
>Please join us in lifting up Pastor Victor and Marlene Cardozo and the CEB Church and staff in Paraguay as we travel. In recent conversations all is going well but there are some of the church families experiencing health problems.
>Please pray that our new and former contacts will develop into a strong partnershipas we continue to minster in Paraguay.
Please pray that the unexpected travel expenses for the rental car will be paid off quickly. Also we would appreciate your prayers for our return flight in August.
