August 2016

Greetings from Paraguay!

Our flight back to Paraguay on July 3rd thru 5th was what every traveler wants to report…quiet and uneventful! After all of the flights and layovers, we walked into our Paraguayan home 43 hours from the time we left Loveland, Colorado. It is amazing how tired one can get just sitting and walking around the different planes and airports! Once home the adjustments to time, food, water, language and schedules began. Since we still live in the office, we had to jump right in without much recuperation time…but shortly we were back working as before… with the details and experiences of the USA Trip fading into sweet memories.

**The Hola Club Children’s Hospital:

As promised, here are the numbers from the months of May, June and July! During those three months we visited the Children’s Hospital 10 times, sharing and praying with 902 parents and children, with 395 people choosing to pray the prayer of salvation! We always stand amazed at the results of taking a couple of hours weekly to share the love of God!

*Pastor Bette and Dolia were excited to see the power of the Holy Spirit at work as they ministered to a young gal who was displaying demonic symptoms. Once set free, the teen admitted to participating in a ‘simple game’ of repeating a chant that gave her the ability to levitate. When her classmates watched as she hovered above the ground, they began to call her a witch… and that’s when the ‘behavioral’ problems began! The young girl’s behavior changed to the point that her mother brought her to the Children’s Hospital seeking help.  One week later, the Hola Club team returned to find the young lady happy, free and preparing to go home. This time, the mother was more than willing to listen to the plan of salvation and pray with the ladies!

*Not all of our encounters with the parents end on a positive note. Sometimes we are rejected. One week I, Connie, was sharing with a young mother that just stared at me as I prayed for her baby and shared about how to have a personal relationship with God. When I asked her if she believed that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, she just shrugged and said “I don’t know.” A bit taken back, I asked if I could ask her a few questions: “Do you believe that the Bible is the Word of God? Do you believe that there is a holy, Almighty God?”, etc. Her answer to everything was a shrug and “I don’t know.” Looking her in the eyes, I told her that I could assure beyond doubt that there is a God that loves her more than she could know, and that the Bible was the true and living Word of God. I asked her to please read the materials that I gave her and to pray, asking if there was a God, that He would make Himself real to her.  I wish I could report that this young mother had a great change of heart, but she didn’t while I was present. I just had to sadly walk away, lifting her up in prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to work in her heart and life.

Join us in thanking God for those who hear and believe and also lifting up in prayer those who reject the Word that we share with them. Ask Father God to send the perfect person to once again talk with them.

**Special Event: Marriage Seminar

With the help of a second couple, Raúl and Evelyn Enciso, we acted as hosts for a 3-day marriage seminar presented to 19 couples in our church. Most of our work involved decorating and preparing snacks for the breaks, which kept us busy. Another important job was to cover the seminar time in prayer. Having attended the seminar, ourselves, several months back, we were excited at the impact that each couple would experience in their marriages. We were not disappointed; we sat back and watched moments of laughter, tears and sometimes some tense moments between the individual couples. At the end of the seminar, each couple had a renewed understanding and dedication to their marriage.

One side note that made us laugh was the comment of one of the older husbands who said: “There sure was a lot of kissing!” One of the rules was that the guys had to kiss their wives whenever a whistle was blown once. The ladies had to kiss their husbands when there were two blasts of the whistle. If they were separated, the couples had to run and find each other to give their kiss! As you can imagine, it was a wild and hilarious time… and Brother Mágin was right, there was a whole lot of kissing going on!

**Additional Prayer Requests

We are gearing up to start on the installation of the concrete floor for the church main meeting area. Before we can actually start the preparation for pouring the 2,600 sq. ft. floor, we must first update our main electrical installation as well as re-position the sound station to the back of the sanctuary. We have a certain amount of funds available to start the project. Please agree with us for the smooth completion of this project and for the supply of the additional U$D 5,000 to complete the floor – we desire to have it completed before the end of 2016.

The congregation here is excited about sending their ‘Pastors’ to the Missions School at Resurrection Fellowship, Loveland, CO in October. Through their offerings and special projects, they have raised the needed funds for the airfare (approx. U$D 1,250) and visa costs (U$D 320). We have challenged the church to ‘honor’ their pastors by participating in sending them on this life-changing trip. With just over one month to go before the trip, approx. U$D 2,000 is still needed to cover the rest the other travel costs. Please agree in prayer that these funds be liberated here in Paraguay for this project.

Blessings – Jerry and Connie
