Greetings from Paraguay!
During the month of August, we thank Father God for his love, provision and protection! We also were allowed two days of rest with a scholarship to attend a Seminar for Pastors just outside of the town of Atyrá, at the Marianela Jesuit Retreat Center. We enjoyed two days and a night’s lodging with meals and teaching on the Marriage Covenant. Thank you Family Foundations (FFI of Paraguay) for this gift of love and thank you Craig Hill, from Littleton, CO, for bringing the seminar to us live!
**The Hola Club Children’s Hospital:
During the month of August, we visited the children’s hospital 4 times. We were able to minister to 324 children and adults during these visits. There were 148 parents and others that chose to pray the prayer of salvation with us.
*I, Connie, had the opportunity to pray for little 2-month old Marcos. Marcos was experiencing breathing problems; with each breath, there was a loud gasping sound that made my heart hurt. After greeting his parents, I asked if I could pray for their little guy, their response was a quick ‘YES’! To my surprise, behind me came prayers of faith! The parents and I joined our faith, hope and prayers, speaking healing to and over their son. It is such a blessing to have parents that believe in the power of prayer and join in as we declare healing to their children!
*Pastor Bette is such a blessing to our Hola Club Team! She has completed her studies and this month will be presenting her thesis to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Just in one visit, she was asked to talk with a 14-year-old girl whose father had raped and beaten her; a mother who was extremely depressed with the condition of her child and for another mother whose child had passed away. For sure, they are all delicate situations that need to be handled carefully! With a heart filled with the love of God, the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and the knowledge gained from her years of study, Pastor Bette has the ability to reach out and minister in a way that gets lasting results.
*Dolia shared that in one of the patient’s rooms there were 6 adult members of a family gathered together. The family had traveled from Encarnación to prepare for the child’s release and return home. Dolia said each and every one listened and prayed the prayer of salvation with her. Thank God, they took Jesus home with them too!
PLEASE JOIN US IN THANKING GOD FOR ALL THAT HE IS DOING THRU EACH AND EVERY MEMBER OF THE HOLA CLUB. CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR PROVISION OF A VAN OR VEHICLE LARGE ENOUGH TO CARRY THE HC TEAM AND OUR BASKETS, AND ALSO A SECOND PERSON OR PERSONS THAT CAN DRIVE THE HC TEAM TO THE HOSPITAL.
*Sunday, 08/20, we as a church, celebrated the National Children’s Day! Children from the Nursery Department, the Children’s Department, the Youth Department…and even a group of mothers joined in presenting the Word through choreographies, songs, dramas and puppets skits. While the adults continued with the regular Sunday service, the children took the time to celebrate with games, hot dogs, cake and gifts! This isn’t just another National Holiday; Paraguay has also set aside a National Day to honor the memory of the children that gave their lives in the Triple Alliance War 1869, in the battle of Acosta Ñú. History states, because of the death of so many of the men, the women and children rose up to continue the fight so that Paraguay could remain a Nation.
JOIN US IN THANKING GOD FOR THE CHILDREN THAT CONTINUE TO BRAVELY STAND IN THE GAP, LIFTING UP THE NAME OF JESUS SO THAT THEIR NATION OF PARAGUAY CAN WALK IN BLESSINGS.
*We have a pastor that is willing to face danger to minister the Word, love and salvation to his fellow Paraguayans! Early one morning in August, we were startled to hear what sounded like a string of large fireworks going off outside of the office. What we were hearing was automatic weapon fire, being exchanged between the National Police and a notorious Car theft and robbery gang! The battle included a high-speed chase thru the neighborhood, a standoff and house search for fleeing robbers. Pastor Victor arrived in the office after the gun fire was over, when Mateo explained what was happening, Pastor Victor proceeded to walk right up to where two of the men lay injured in pools of their own blood. He proceeded to talk with the men about their need for Jesus, forgiveness and their eternity. Both men agreed to pray the sinner’s prayer with Pastor Victor. (A few days later we learned that both men had passed away.) What was amazing was that not one of the police stationed around the street tried to stop Pastor Victor from approaching the injured men. Pastor Victor seemed to have complete freedom. He encountered an officer that he knew from the prison ministry who ‘just happened to be standing guard’. Pastor Victor received firsthand information in what had transpired and what was in progress. Even as they spoke, a squad of police were searching for another gang member, whom they eventually found hiding in a neighbor’s closet. Five gang members were arrested and two others were being hunted.
While all the gunfire and excitement was happening, our property care keeper, Luis, was taking cover in the tool shed. We thank God for Luis’ protection as one of the gang members jumped the fence and ran thru the church property with a rain of bullets following him.
ALL WAS EXCITING, BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT TWO MEN WERE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT WITH GOD BEFORE LEAVING THIS LIFE. KIND OF MAKES YOU THINK OF THE TWO ROBBERS THAT WERE CRUCIFIED WITH JESUS, HUH? PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SAFETY OF THE MEN AND WOMEN THAT FACE DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THEY SHARE THE LOVE AND WORD OF GOD.
Blessings – Jerry and Connie
