Greetings from Paraguay!
September was a month of great joy with the 9-day visit of a longtime friend, Larry Hunter! For nearly 4 years, Larry and his wife Debra were LWT missionaries to Brazil, after spending 4-1/2 years in Central America. They are now located in North Carolina. Larry travels monthly to mainly Latin American countries preaching the Word and was with us from Tuesday the 19th thru Wednesday the 27th of September. His big smile and sense of humor quickly won the hearts of the Paraguayans. We packed his schedule full, ministering 2, sometimes 3 times a day to a variety of groups: LWT-Paraguay Staff and leaders; Bible Institute students; 3-classes at the Hogar El Camino Orphanage; Ladies Group; Military Prison; Music Academy students; an Evangelism outreach; CEB Youth Group; Sunday morning and evening CEB Church service – a Sunday afternoon Men Only meeting. On Monday morning the 25th, Jerry, Larry and Pastor Victor… (sounds like the 3-stooges, right? Believe me; they were having as much fun as the original-3!) …headed interior for 3 days, doing two radio programs, two evangelistic services and visiting 3 or 4 other groups of believers. The guys returned to Capiatá on Wednesday evening and on Thursday, the 28th, Larry caught his 6:00 AM flight back to the States. Hope he could sleep on the plane! It was a great time and we thank God for all that was accomplished during Larry’s visit.
**The Hola Club Children’s Hospital:
During the month of September, we visited the children’s hospital 4 times. We were able to minister to 321 children and adults during these visits. There were 129 parents and other adults that chose to pray the prayer of salvation with us.
*Celeste and Pastor Betty each had the privilege of leading a Hospital Guard to Jesus! The guards are required to ‘watch and listen’, keeping track of what is going on in the hospital rooms and hallways. After several months of supervising our visits, the Word had been planted in their hearts and they were ready to take the next step and receive Jesus – two more souls for the Kingdom!
*Ana, a cleaning lady at the hospital had also been listening as she cleaned around us each week. One week in September Ana asked Dolia to step in one of the rooms to talk for a moment. She wanted to out of sight of the surveillance camera. She asked to pray the salvation prayer. The second week she took a moment to tell our ladies that people were asking her what had happened to her, she had changed so much! She wanted to know where the CEB Church was located. The third week Ana greeted us with smiles and hugs, and the following Sunday she was in church, worshiping with us! She says that she will be returning and will bring her teenage son, Diego, with her.
*An answer to a long standing prayer: the legal papers, affirming the death of Celeste’s late husband have been signed after more than a 4-year legal battle. Now Celeste was free to marry Miguel! The wedding date was September 30th … we all are happy and celebrated with them! Thank you for all the prayers.
PLEASE JOIN US IN PRAYING THAT, THE SEED OF THE WORD IS PROTECTED IN EACH HEART, GIVING IT TIME TO GROW AND PRODUCE FRUIT. AN ONGOING REQUEST: PRAY FOR PROVISION OF A VAN OR VEHICLE LARGE ENOUGH TO CARRY THE HC TEAM AND OUR BASKETS, AND ALSO A SECOND PERSON OR PERSONS THAT CAN DRIVE THE HC TEAM TO THE HOSPITAL.
*The Month of September is nationally celebrated as ‘Youth Month’ and the beginning of spring! Larry Hunter’s visit was scheduled to highlight this event with our youth and those of us that are young at heart. The youth prepared a skit and chorographic presentation for an evangelistic outreach in a local neighborhood and also for the Youth Night Celebration at the church. For the fun time after the service, there were games, a rented trampoline and crazy balloon platform (jumping blowup) for adults… and FOOD! Being a Saturday night, the youth celebrated until midnight… they could have continued, but the adults wore out!
JOIN US IN THANKING GOD FOR THE YOUTH, THEY ARE RISING UP AND TAKING THEIR PLACE IN THE CHURCH. PRAY FOR ANOINTING AND BLESSINGS AS THEY PLAY THE MUSIC INSTRUMENTS, SING IN THE WORSHIP GROUPS, SERVE IN THE USHER AND HELPS MINISTRY, ETC. PRAY FOR SPIRITUAL IMPACT AS THE YOUTH GROUP CONTINUES TO GROW WITH YOUNG PEOPLE SEEKING MORE IN THEIR LIFE.
**CFC Prison Ministry:
*A couple of months ago we shared with you about Oscar, our secretary within the Military prison. We would like to share more of Oscar’s, testimony. Oscar has served nearly 13 of a 25-year sentence. During these years, Oscar has become a strong and solid Christian, but it wasn’t without certain costs. His parents were a very strong Catholic family. When he told them that he had received Jesus and was going to be water baptized, they became angry. The thought that Oscar had becoming an ‘evangelical’, on top of being put in prison, was too much shame. His father told him that he and his mother had discussed Oscar’s decision, and if he continued with his outrages plan, they would disown him as their son. Sadly, Oscar faced his father and told him that he could not turn his back on his salvation in Jesus. From that point his parents stopped visiting and supporting Oscar for many years. But, over the years, Oscar’s stance and testimony began to have an effect on his parents; until one day they became hungry for what their son had. Today, both parents are strong Christians who shake their heads and marvel at how silly they were for all of those years. Now, they live to share the Word with their lovely daughter-in-law and three grandchildren, and visit and support Oscar as much as they can.
AT TIMES THE PRICE OF SALVATION CAN SEEM HIGH, BUT JESUS MAKES IT ALL WORTHWHILE! JOIN US IN THANKING GOD FOR OSCAR AND THE INFLUENCE HE HAS IN AND OUTSIDE OF THE PRISON WALLS. PLEASE PRAY FOR HIS SAFETY, HIS FAMILY AND THE FUTURE THAT GOD IS PREPARING FOR THIS MAN. IT IS OUR PLAN TO KEEP OSCAR AS PART OF OUR STAFF WHEN HE IS RELEASED. HIS EXPERIENCE AND LOVE FOR THE MEN BEHIND BARS WILL BE A GREAT PLUS AS THE PRISON MINISTRY AND RESURRECTION CHURCH WITHIN THE PRISON GROW.
Blessings – Jerry and Connie
