April-September 2012

Dear Friends and Family,

thank youOnce again we find ourselves ‘behind the eight ball ball in not getting our thank you notes to you over the last few months. Please accept our apology and enjoy the blessings of God that have been overtaking us (Matthew 6:33).

2012 ty aprilDuring the month of April we had the privilege of attending yet another seminar in our home church, Resurrection Fellowship, in Loveland, Colorado. They took such good care of us, making sure we had the opportunity to rest and regroup!
Doug Addison, Out of the Box Prophetic Ministry, shared the ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ of evangelistic ministry. We learned to be diversified in our evangelistic work, remembering that it was Love that brought Jesus into the World and it is love that will bring a lost World back to God. We need to reach all ‘types’ and classes’ of people, learning to communicate with each people group. When we meet people at the point of their need, show them the Love that God has for them, the World will change. God is moving outside of the ‘box’ of the church – go out with Him, move with Him, win your World for Jesus!

Speaking of seminars, there was one earlier in 2012 that comes to mind that causes us to smile and just have to share a brief testimony with you. The Convergence seminar at REZ in February was designed to instruct, inspire and encourage the pastors and the leaders. Pastor Jonathan Wiggins spoke on one occasion about prophesying or speaking out words over individuals that would build them up and encourage them. At the end of the session, we were given an assignment: We were to approach several people that we didn’t know well, ask God what He would say to or about them, and then share that information with them. In doing so, we were learning to listen to the Holy Spirit and then being bold enough to speak it out. It was amazing how many of the words of knowledge, coming from completely different people, were the same or related in content! One of the words of knowledge for Jerry got our attention. A man approached him saying, “I sense God saying: re-fired not retired!” When Pastor Jonathan asked for several to share some of the words spoken over them, Jerry went forward and stated: ‘Re-fired not retired’ and sat down with everyone laughing and clapping. That evening, a guest speaker, who hadn’t been present at the morning session, spoke out to the crowd saying, “God says you are to re-fire, not retire in doing His work!” Needless to say, the whole group that had attended the morning session laughed and turned to look at Jerry!

2012 ty mayDuring the month of May you would have found us in Loveland, Colorado, with shovels and tree-trimmers in hand! With our time in the States coming to a swift end, we were working hard to complete a couple of projects that we had started.
First off, we helped with some yard work, preparing for our grandson, Jeremy’s high school graduation party. Trimming those evergreen bushes can be a prickly job, but when you add the factor of an occasional gardener snake popping out from under the branches, well, it kept Connie alert and on her toes! The graduation party was fun, the yard looked great decorated, but best of all, Jeremy was happy! Jeremy is now headed to Arizona to play college baseball… oh yes; he will get an education too!

Our second project was to work with Jerry’s brother and sisters in putting in a patio for Mom White. This make-over included cutting down a big tree, digging out grass and weed roots, leveling and laying tiles, etc. Do you know how many shovel loads of dirt and trash is in about 5 tons? Believe us, A LOT! We were beginning to doubt our wisdom in taking on the project when we had to load and unload the trailer several times with dirt, trash, sand and rocks. With many helping hands, the patio became a reality that the whole family will enjoy together!

2012 ty juneJune… what seemed like an eternity away, when we left Paraguay in September 2011, arrived more quickly then we could ever imagine. Truthfully, we were torn between the desire to return to Paraguay and to stay in the States with the family… what memories we have made! The temptation was great, but we know that God still has things for us to do in South America, so we packed our bags and headed out.

The return wasn’t without its challenges. Our returning airlines from the States to Paraguay went bankrupt and we had to scramble to find another flight... and pay again! All in all, it turned out good and was a fast flight. Hitting all the connections just right, we were back in Capiatá, Paraguay in about 18 hours! That’s a new record for us!

With love and joy our Staff, church members and friends welcomed us back to Paraguay. Quickly, the month of June was swallowed up in all of the activities and responsibilities of being pastor. Once again we are preaching the Word, praying for the sick and encouraging the people to keep their eyes on Jesus.

2012 ty julyDuring the month of July we experienced a ‘bittersweet’ moment… our first loss of a church member in the 15-years of the church. Our precious friend, Catelino, went home to be with the Lord after a battle with cancer. We received the call about 1:45 AM and rushed to be with the family. First the police have to be called to come and confirm the death, and then the family has to go and have a death certificate issued by a doctor. The tradition is to set with the body during the night and then hold the burial after 24-hours of the death. We had the privilege of helping this much loved family with all of the arrangement details, then the following morning we laid our friend to rest. Through tears we rejoiced knowing that someday soon, we will be once again hugging Catelino’s neck… and then we will also have the privilege of introducing you to him!

2012 ty augustDuring the month of August, out of all of our activities, our participation with the BIG evangelistic outreach hosting Carlos Annacondia was the greatest! We joined forces with several churches in our City of Capiatá and a couple of neighboring cities also. Hours were poured into the preparation for this event, but all was worth it when several thousands of people arrived to hear the Word. The power and presence of God caused demons to flee, bodies to be healed and souls to be saved. As the power of God was flowing, Jerry was touched and healed of a hernia; he didn’t even realize it until the next morning! We were so proud of our church body because they were so willing to serve in all of the ministry levels. They actually have been listening and learning from us all these many years!

2012 ty septemberOn a personal note, September is ‘Birthday Month’ for us both…. (Jerry- September 6 and Connie- September 26). If you were to be in Paraguay long, you would find that ‘celebrating birthdays’ is a big event here. In the past we have tried to keep it down and only share a cake with our church family, but since this was Jerry’s big ‘65th’, we decided to choose a date between our two special days and throw a PARTY! And that we did… we provided a chicken dinner for 140 guests, which we served ourselves. After setting up tables, decorating, receiving guests, serving the chicken, cutting and serving the cake, we were so pleased that our ‘church family’ stayed and helped us clean up. Notice - next year, we are going back to only serving cake!
